The Los Angeles Dodgers may be preparing to move on from right-hander Bobby Miller, a former top-25 prospect and 2020 first-round pick, following a rocky start to his career.
Zach Pressnell of Newsweek highlighted that the Dodgers are expected to be aggressive at the MLB Trade Deadline, drastically increasing the potential to move Miller.
"Miller was once regarded as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. Now, he can't even crack the injury-riddled Dodgers rotation," Pressnell said. "There are likely some teams on the fence, like the Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, who would trade expiring veterans for a pitcher like Miller."
Miller, now 26 years old, was Los Angeles’s 29th overall selection in the 2020 MLB Draft, bringing high expectations as a potential frontline starter. His fast rise through the minors had many placing him into the team's future rotation, but his early flashes have since fizzled amid struggles over the last four seasons.
This season’s struggles intensified speculation that the Dodgers may be willing to cut ties with Miller, who has a career ERA of 4.33 in the Minors after posting a 2.40 ERA across 14 games in his first season in High-A and Double-A back in 2021.
Recent injuries have also played a significant role, inhibiting Miller's development by ending both his 2023 and 2024 seasons early. Still, Pressnell believes there is a market for the once highly-touted 6'5" 220lb righty from Elk Grove, Illinois.
"While he likely doesn't hold much value at this point, he could be included in a trade that lands the Dodgers a star," Pressnell said.
