The Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday revealed some concerning news about the health of Shohei Ohtani.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani will not make his scheduled start as a pitcher on Wednesday. Ohtani’s knee is still bothering him, and the Dodgers are being particularly cautious with it.

“We just want to continue to give (the knee) the best chance to get into a good spot,” Roberts said.

On one hand, the Dodgers are not signaling that there is any long-term concern about Ohtani’s health. That said, it has to be a bit concerning that he will not be able to pitch on schedule even after taking the entire All-Star break off to help heal his knee.

Ohtani has said the injury is a bigger problem when pitching than it is when hitting. He was able to hit Friday night, going 0-for-4 against the New York Yankees in the first game after the break. He did not play Saturday as the scheduled game in New York was rained out.
