On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have officially signed star pitcher Clayton Kershaw to a one-year, $7.5 million contract. In addition, Los Angeles shared that Kershaw's new deal includes roster and game-started bonuses.
With the Kershaw deal being official, the 10-time All-Star is set to pitch in his 18th season as a Dodger. However, fans will likely need to wait a bit to see the southpaw make his 2025 season debut.
While speaking to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Kershaw revealed that he expects to start the season on the 60-day injured list. However, he also said that he believes he will be good to return to the mound once those 60 days are up. If Kershaw does not suffer setbacks and all goes well with his recovery, his return could occur in late May.
Kershaw, 36, is currently recovering from toe and knee surgeries he underwent in November. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was limited to just seven appearances this past season with the Dodgers, posting a 2-2 record, a 4.50 ERA, and 24 strikeouts.
It will be fascinating to see what happens with Kershaw from here, but a potential return time period has at least now been established.
