Dodgers Urged to Trade Struggling Impact Arm

In 2024, Dodgers’ no. 14 prospect (at the time) Landon Knack put up respectable numbers in his debut year, pitching to a 3.65 ERA. In Game 4 of the World Series, Knack came on in relief, pitching 4 innings against the Yankees and giving up just one run.

Now in his Sophomore year, Knack hasn’t quite pitched to the same success that made him a valuable member of the Dodgers just last season. In 38.2 innings, Knack owns a lackluster 5.12 ERA with 35 strikeouts. His 18 walks match his total from last year when he pitched 69 innings.

Given the Dodgers’ pitching problems, losing patience with an underperformer like Knack is understandable. As a result, ClutchPoints' Garrett Kerman makes the case for trading him.

“Through the first half of the season, Knack has posted a 5.12 ERA, struggling to keep hitters off balance and failing to provide the stability the Dodgers desperately need amid a wave of injuries,” he wrote.

“While he’s shown flashes of potential, including a solid rookie campaign in 2024, his inability to string together quality starts has left the Dodgers searching for answers.

“With injured stars like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow potentially returning and prospects like Nick Frasso waiting in the wings, Knack may find himself squeezed out of the rotation.

Given the Dodgers’ championship window and the urgency to shore up both the rotation and bullpen, Knack represents a valuable trade asset.”

Still relatively inexperienced, Knack would make an interesting trade chip. However, with the Dodgers' pitching staff in tatters, one might wonder if keeping him around as a ‘just in case’ sort of contingency arm might be a better plan.

Of course, if they can land a more reliable pitcher for him, it may be worth it to sacrifice his years of control for a shot at the World Series this year.
