Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith went 1-for-4 with two RBIs in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday night.
His one hit was a two-run double off Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe in the sixth inning that gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead; however, it was not enough to earn the win. The Brewers answered with back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell in the seventh and eventually went on to win 6-2.
The Brewers now lead the series 3-0, and the back-to-back defending World Series champion Dodgers are on the brink of elimination.
Smith, a three-time World Series champion, has been a steady presence in the middle of the Dodgers lineup since his 2019 debut. He returned in September after missing time with an inflamed disc in his neck. Smith hit .260/.355/.426 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 73 games this season.
Away from the field, Smith’s wife, Cara, announced on Instagram on Wednesday ahead of Game 3 that the couple welcomed their third daughter, Carter.
“Our third October baby girl… Carter,” Cara Smith wrote in the post.
Carter joins big sisters Charlotte, born in 2022, and Layton, born in October 2024.
Los Angeles needs to win four straight games to return to the World Series. Only one team in MLB history has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a postseason series. Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday evening at Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium at 8:00 p.m. ET.
