Los Angeles Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is out of the 2025 MLB All-Star Game and will be replaced by Cincinnati pitcher Andrew Abbott.

Yamamoto is scheduled to pitch on Sunday, making him ineligible to pitch in Tuesday's game.

The Japanese right-hander gave up five runs in his latest outing on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

He only threw a total of 41 pitches in what was the worst start of his MLB career so far.

Yamamoto has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, posting an impressive 2.77 ERA and is valued at 2.0 WAR.

At the age of 26, he is in his second season in the big leagues. Yamamoto has thrown 97.1 innings this season, over seven more than he threw all of last season.

His fastball sits at about 95 mph, and he is doing a good job of mixing all of his pitches. He ranks in the 90th percentile in terms of ground ball percentage, 86th in expected ERA, and 84th in strikeout percentage.

Yamamoto is more efficient with his pitches and gets outs much easier when compared to past seasons. He doesn't rely on strikeouts and whiffs as much as he did last season; rather, he uses the ground ball to get out of innings faster and go deeper into games.

The Dodgers' pitching staff is a revolving door of arms constantly going to and from from the injured list, but Yamamoto is a consistent fixture in the rotation.

He is a key reason that Los Angeles has stayed afloat while pitchers like Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki nurse their injuries.
