Donovan Walton’s 3-run HR lifts A’s past Angels

Rookie Henry Bolte recorded the first four-hit game of his career and Donovan Walton hit a three-run homer to help the Athletics notch a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night at West Sacramento, Calif.

Shea Langeliers had a two-run double and Bolte scored twice, had two doubles and drove in one run for the Athletics (63-95), who assured they will avoid a 100-loss season. Alika Williams had two hits and two runs while Zack Gelof and Lawrence Butler also had two hits apiece as the A's swept the two-game set.

Geoff Hartlieb (2-1) gave up one hit, one walk and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Athletics.

Mike Trout and Vaughn Grissom homered for the Angels (60-98), who are two losses shy of the first 100-loss season in franchise history. Grissom had two hits and two RBIs and Trout and Wade Meckler also had two hits apiece for Los Angeles.

Walbert Urena (9-11) of the Angels allowed five runs and seven hits over four innings. He struck out two and walked one.

The Athletics' Jeffrey Springs gave up three runs, five hits, one walk and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up two homers, raising his count to 35, second most in the majors behind Philadelphia's Aaron Nola, who also served up two blasts on Wednesday.

The Athletics scored four runs in the first inning one night after overcoming a six-run deficit to post a 9-7 win over Los Angeles.

Bolte led off with an infield single and soon scored on Butler's single to left. With two outs, Jeff McNeil walked and Gelof was hit by a pitch before Walton, a former Angel, clubbed a three-run homer to right.

The A's made it 5-0 in the second as Williams reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on Bolte's one-out double to right.

Grissom to right-center and Trout to left hit consecutive one-out homers off Springs in the fourth. Trout's blast was his 44th career homer against the Athletics.

In the fifth, Tyler Heineman was hit by Springs with one out and Zach Neto walked against Hartlieb. After Trout struck out, Grissom singled off the glove of shortstop Williams and the ball rolled into shallow center as Heineman scored to pull the Angels within 5-3.

Williams singled to start the sixth and Bolte reached on a one-out infield single. Langeliers came up with two out and laced a two-run double to right off Jose Fermin to give the A's a four-run lead.
