The Toronto Blue Jays are aiming to replicate their success from last year as spring training for the 2026 MLB season approaches, and one player in particular is looking to carry over that momentum.
Utility infielder Ernie Clement emerged as an unlikely hero during Toronto’s run to the World Series, setting an MLB record with 30 hits in a single postseason.
His breakout performance was surprising given that he was best known for his defense. During the regular season, Clement posted a .277 batting average, .313 on-base percentage, .711 OPS, nine home runs and 50 RBIs across 157 games.
In the 2025 playoffs, however, his production skyrocketed. He delivered a .411 batting average, .416 on-base percentage and .977 OPS, becoming one of the most impactful hitters in October and a key reason the Blue Jays reached the Fall Classic.
As the offseason continues, Clement has been vocal about how much he enjoys playing in Toronto. He has not always been with the Blue Jays, previously debuting for the Cleveland Guardians and spending a short stint with the Athletics.
With Toronto, however, he has found his greatest success and just completed his third season, the longest stretch of his career with one team.
His vocal support continued early on Thursday when Clement reposted a Blue Jays graphic to his Instagram story and added the caption, “The boys are ready to roll ”
Shortly after, reports confirmed he had avoided arbitration with Toronto. Arbitration in MLB is the process used to settle salary disputes between teams and eligible players who are not yet free agents. If the two sides cannot agree on a salary, the case goes before a panel of arbitrators who choose either the player’s figure or the team’s offer.
By striking a deal before reaching that stage, Clement and the Blue Jays ensured stability and avoided the risk of a contentious hearing.

For Clement, this agreement locks in a guaranteed $4.6 million salary for 2026, rewarding his breakout postseason and steady regular-season contributions. For Toronto, it secures a versatile infielder at a fair price.
With his contract settled and confidence at an all-time high, Clement has the chance to build on his breakout and solidify himself as a key piece of Toronto’s push for another deep postseason run in 2026.
