The Subway Series showcases one of MLB's most iconic rivalries, but the New York Mets made it especially dramatic after signing superstar Juan Soto to a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract in the offseason. The 26-year-old helped lead the New York Yankees to the World Series last season, but rejected their 16-year, $760 million offer in favor of the Mets' historic offer.
The Yankees hosted their cross-town rival on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the first time since Soto jumped ship. The five-time Silver Slugger struggled, going 1-for-10 with four walks and two runs scored over the series. The Yankees won two of the three games.
After the game, ESPN announced the network drew a historic level of viewership for Sunday's series finale, via MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
"Sunday's Subway Series finale between the Mets and Yankees averaged 2.54 million viewers and peaked at 3.02 million, making it the most watched Sunday Night Baseball game in seven years, according to ESPN and Nielsen," he reported. "It was also the most-watched 2025 MLB game on any platform."

Soto went 0-for-4 in the game, and the Yankees won 8-2.
The Mets are now 1-4 in their last five games and 5-5 in their last 10 after losing 3-1 to the Boston Red Sox on Monday. They've scored just eight runs over their last five contests.
The Mets are a half-game behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. They'll face the Red Sox on the road for two more games before hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, and Colorado Rockies.
