Speculation continues to build around the future of ace pitcher Tarik Skubal with the struggling Detroit Tigers, especially after he won his arbitration case against the club in February and is making $32 million this season compared to the team’s offer of $19 million.

Skubal is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies in his arm, but since he’s been unavailable, the Tigers have suffered through a horrific stretch. With their latest loss on Friday evening to the Baltimore Orioles, they’ve won just two of their last 17 games and have sunk to the bottom of the American League Central Division standings.

While making a guest appearance on the “Foul Territory” podcast, former pitcher Trevor May stated his belief in no uncertain terms that the Tigers need to trade Skubal.

“Yeah, one hundred thousand percent they should trade him, because he will not have a higher value than if he is healthy and cooking around the deadline,” he said via Foul Territory on X. “He’s their number one guy. Look at all these teams – if you add Tarik Skubal to the three guys who are going to throw in the playoffs, every team needs it. The prospects or the talent you could get back would be huge; you’re not signing him coming back.”

Skubal, who is the back-to-back reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, had gone 3-2 with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP with 45 strikeouts prior to undergoing surgery.

Without Skubal, the Tigers will try to get back into the win column as their series against the Orioles continues on Saturday at Camden Yards.
