Ex-Yankee Goes From Trolling NYY to Being DFA'd

It seems “IN DUE TIME ,” has become “TO DO TIME,” as in it is time for Alex Verdugo to find something else to do.

According to Ken Rosenthal on X ,com, Vergudo has been designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. The move makes room on the Braves roster for the return of Jurickson Profar, who had been serving a suspension for PED use.

In 56 games for Atlanta, he hit .239 with zero home runs and an OPS of .585.

It is an interesting turn of events for Verdugo, who was so confident he would have a spot on an entirely different team. Now that an even worse team is dumping him, it has to make him regret trolling Jasson Dominguez on Instagram during the Yankees' rookie's struggles in  Spring Training.

Publicly highlighting another player's struggles is bold. It's even bolder when it's your former teammate.

Even without using Dominguez's name directly, Yankees fans are very familiar with the concept of subtweeting. They were tuned into the caption’s hidden meaning. They responded exactly as Verdugo hoped, calling on the front office to bring him back.

But now, the Braves and their fans have figured out that Verdugo isn't a big league hitter anymore.

Now that his stint in Atlanta has gone so terribly, will he try and subtweet his way out of it?

Verdugo now has to sit and wait. The Braves have seven days to trade Verdugo before he can accept an outright assignment to the minors or elect free agency.

His best route back to the majors is an injury in the outfield with the Braves, or somewhere else.

Most professional athletes understand how thin the margins are on their career. They know how easily they can end up out of the league. Those who don’t understand that make themselves look foolish, especially when they do it on Instagram.

Now Atlanta sees why he was still available when they got him.
