Ryan Borucki has a new home to begin the 2026 season.

Shortly after the Chicago White Sox released Borucki, numerous sources reported that the left-handed reliever has signed a big league deal with the San Francisco Giants.

This is the 31-year-old’s fifth organization. Drafted in the 15th round of the 2012 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, Borucki made his debut as a starter in 2018, posting a 3.87 ERA and 3.80 FIP in 97.2 innings pitched before missing most of 2019. Borucki’s best season in the Jays system came in 2020, where he finished the year with a 2.70 ERA and 3.61 FIP in 16.2 innings pitched during the pandemic-shortened season.

Borucki had a rough 2021 season, and after six and one-third innings pitched with the Jays in 2022, he was designated for assignment and traded to the Seattle Mariners. In his second organization, he had a 4.26 ERA and 5.59 FIP in 19 innings pitched.

The 2023 season saw Broucki have a career-year, this time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 2.45 ERA and 3.50 FIP in 40.1 innings pitched, with a 21.7 K% and 2.6 BB%. His walk rate was notable as Borucki had been struggling with free passes since his rookie campaign. Borucki started the season with the Chicago Cubs’ Triple-A team, was called up, but never pitched for the team before the Pirates signed him to a minor league contract and eventually called him up.

Borucki remained in the Pirates organization in 2024, posting a 7.36 ERA and 4.53 FIP in 11 innings pitched. In 2025, 35 of his 39 appearances came with the Pirates where he had a 5.28 ERA and 4.34 FIP, before being released and re-signing with the Jays. In his four outings with the American League pennant winners, Borucki threw four and one-third scoreless innings.

All six of Borucki’s Spring Training outings came with the White Sox, where he pitched six scoreless innings with a 38.1 K% and 4.8 BB%. Borucki joins another former Blue Jay, Matt Gage, in the Giants’ bullpen. Additionally, 2021 Cy Young winner Robbie Ray is set to start in their rotation.
