The Phillies are taking a flier on a former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher with a World Series ring on his finger.
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Philadelphia is signing former Brewers veteran Tucker Davidson to a Minor League contract, as spring training nears.
Philadelphia has spent much of the offseason fortifying the bullpen, but could be turning to the 30-year-old Davidson to provide further depth for a group that has been one of the Phillies shortcomings over the past several runs to the postseason.
Davidson, however, will need to win a job out of spring training or eventually climb the ladder onto the big league roster to make that kind of an impact.
As his sixth-season nears, Davidson owns a career-5.76 ERA in 129.1 innings pitched, on his way to a 4-10 record and two saves
Davidson spent part of last season in the Brewers’ organization, where he played primarily in AAA, before being released back on October 12. It remains to be seen whether the Phillies will start Davidson out with the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs or AA Reading Fightin’ Phils, but he may have the chance to compete for a spot on the Major League roster this spring.
