While baseball’s “Hot Stove” has been active during MLB’s winter meetings this offseason, other notable events have occurred as well.

One of these events was the 2024 MLB Draft Lottery, which the Cleveland Guardians ended up winning this past Tuesday evening.

Another event was the announcement of the Ford C. Frick Award winner. According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, the award, “is presented annually to a broadcaster for ‘major contributions to baseball.’"

On Wednesday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that longtime Boston Red Sox radio broadcaster Joe Castiglione was named the winner of the 2024 Ford C. Frick Award.

Per the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s official release, the 76-year-old has a considerable connection to the Northeast Ohio area.

His professional broadcasting career began in Youngstown, Ohio, when he worked for WFMJ-TV. Then, he eventually joined Cleveland’s WKYC-TV.

Castiglione ended up calling Cleveland Indians games for two seasons as a television broadcaster in 1979 and 1982. He then became a member of the Red Sox’s radio broadcasting team in 1983, where he has remained ever since.

Castiglione has called each of Boston's four World Series wins since 2004, the first two of which had Red Sox teams managed by eventual longtime Guardians manager Terry Francona.

Castiglione was not the only finalist this year who has ties to the Cleveland franchise.

Current Guardians radio broadcaster Tom Hamilton was named a Ford C. Frick Award finalist for the second consecutive year, and his third overall

Former Cleveland Indians second baseman and current San Francisco Giants television broadcaster Duane Kuiper was also named a finalist for the second consecutive year, and his third overall.
