Former Marlins president slams Derek Jeter for actions as team CEO

Former Miami Marlins president David Samson slammed Hall of Famer and ex-Marlins CEO Derek Jeter on Monday during an appearance on the "Foul Territory" podcast.

"Jeter would have paid $4.2 billion because it wasn't his money. And his plan was, hey, whatever @DavidPSamson did, I'm doing the opposite. He went full Costanza. And the problem with that is when you're wrong, then you look like a jackass!"

Samson joins a list of former or current Marlins to criticize "Mr. November."

Last August, former owner Jeffrey Loria bashed Jeter, saying the longtime shortstop "came in and destroyed" the home stadium of the team (LoanDepot Park) with his decision to remove the extravagant home run sculpture in 2018. Loria (who is Samson's stepfather) said last summer that "destroying public art was a horrible thing to do," referring to Jeter's actions.

The 83-year-old served as Miami's owner from 2002-2017.

"The Captain" was part of an ownership group that bought the franchise in August 2017. He stepped down ahead of the 2022 season.

Last September, Marlins star outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. echoed some of Loria's and Samson's words, saying that he felt that Jeter decided to take down the seven-story tall home runs sculpture because he's "not with the flashiness."

Chisholm Jr. added that Jeter chose to put a "normal little 'M' up there now," which he called "kind of boring."
