Enough is enough when it comes to the Philadelphia Phillies not doing what they have to do to improve their outfield.
Dave Dombrowski has been given many chances, and this is the trade deadline he must finally do something the right way. If not, it'd be tough to continue trusting him, frankly.
However, when searching for potential options for the Phillies to pursue, The Athletic linked them to a player who would likely have the same type of flaws that the Phillies have dealt with over the past few years.
That player was former New York Yankees outfielder and current Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader.
“This trade market could be thin on outfielders, especially right-handed-hitting outfielders. Bader could help fill that void. He remains a very strong defender, capable of playing left, right or center, and he’s been a slightly above-league-average hitter with enough power to be dangerous. He also can still run a little bit. The total package is a solid outfield regular,” they wrote.
Throughout his career, Bader has been a decent player, but again, is he what the Phillies need at this point? Probably not.
Bader is currently hitting at .251 with 108 OPS+, which would be among the best seasons of his career, but that isn't saying much considering he's a career 93 OPS+ hitter.
He's a very good defensive outfielder, and there's value in that, but the Phillies need a player they can add to this lineup who can go out and bang.
Unfortunately, even if Bader keeps it up, it isn't like he's that type of player. He has 11 home runs and 34 RBIs, which again is decent, but the Phillies need more.
