Garrett Crochet makes tough admission amid Red Sox turnaround

It’s been a while since Boston Red Sox star Garrett Crochet has taken the mound this season. He struggled early in the year, and then went out with an injury after his start on April 25. With the Red Sox now on an incredible heater, questions about Crochet’s return have reached a fever pitch.

The Red Sox have won each of their last 14 games, and have a chance to go for 15 in a row on Wednesday. Boston has clawed its way over .500 with this run. And they are now in a playoff spot as the second half of the season begins. Unfortunately, it does not appear as if Crochet will be joining the team during this run anytime soon.

“It’s tough to say, I’m not going to make a claim like that… I understand why you ask the question… it’s just completely different from the original diagnosis,” the Red Sox ace said when asked about pitching in 2026, via NBC Sports Boston.

Crochet played his first season with Boston last year following a trade from the Chicago White Sox in the offseason. He was as dominant as any pitcher in baseball, as well. He struck out 255 batters in 205.1 innings while pitching to a 2.59 ERA. The Red Sox star was a candidate for the AL Cy Young, though it ultimately went to Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

The Red Sox are on an incredible run as of late. Adding a healthy Crochet to this team would make them one of the formidable teams in the AL. Unfortunately, it appears as if Boston fans will need to wait a while to see their ace return to the mound.
