George Lombard Jr. stole the spotlight at the Futures Game—and he’s not the only Yankees prospect making noise. From Spencer Jones’ Triple-A surge to Carlos Lagrange’s dominance and Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz’s promotion, New York’s farm system keeps flashing impact talent as the second half of the season begins.
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
The red-hot RailRiders swept a six-game series from Buffalo last week and have won eight in a row.
Center fielder Spencer Jones continues to produce at the Triple-A level, hitting his seventh home run in 14 games on Sunday since being promoted from Double-A Somerset. The 2022 first-round pick is batting .362 with 15 RBIs over that span.
Double-A Somerset
Lombard Jr. doubled, walked, and stole a base in Saturday’s Futures Game.
“It was great, it was fun,” Lombard told SNY. “I had a good time. It was fun being out there with the guys on the field and getting to face some of these guys. It was an all-around good day.”
Right-hander Carlos Lagrange (8-4, 3.96 ERA between Hudson Valley and Somerset) threw five no-hit innings in relief on Sunday against New Hampshire, striking out seven and walking one. He followed a rehab start from Luis Gil, who allowed one run on two hits and struck out six in 3⅓ innings. Lagrange has a 3.70 ERA at Somerset and 113 strikeouts in 77⅓ innings overall this year.
Class-A Hudson Valley
Right-hander Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz was promoted to Somerset after going 6-4 with a 2.26 ERA at Hudson Valley. He struck out 99 batters in 83⅔ innings.
Left-hander Griffin Herring bounced back from his worst outing with two strong starts. On Thursday, he gave up two runs and struck out nine in seven innings against Asheville. Herring is 7-2 with a 1.69 ERA across Hudson Valley and Single-A Tampa.
Class-A Tampa
Right-hander Andrew Landry was promoted to Hudson Valley.
Infielder Juan Matheus is tied for third in the FSL with 31 stolen bases (in 39 attempts). He’s batting .263 with one home run and 38 RBIs, which ranks 11th in the league.
Outfielder Marshall Toole leads the FSL with a .313 batting average.
