George Springer has been limited to an inconsistent role for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026, spending time on the injured list and managing a fractured left big toe that has bothered him in the early going.
The four-time All-Star is slashing .214/.295/.371 with five home runs and 14 RBI across 158 plate appearances and is coming off one of his best games of the season, going 3-for-4 with an RBI single and a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-1 win over the Miami Marlins.
Even with the type of game he had, Springer will not be in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins at Rogers Centre, per Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi. It is a scheduled day off for the veteran outfielder.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. returns for finale vs Marlins. He’s better able to extend his right arm and get through the ball swinging said John Schneider, although his elbow is still sore.

The fractured toe has been a big problem for Springer. The 36-year-old fouled a pitch off his left foot against the Minnesota Twins on April 11 and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day and missed 15 games before returning on April 29. Only a few days later, he was struck by a pitch on the same toe on May 2 and missed two games. Since then, Toronto has given him rest days to prevent the injury from worsening.
Since returning from the injured list on April 29, Springer has struggled to add to the team’s offense, batting .233 with three home runs and eight RBI over 22 games. The numbers are a glimpse of a player who hit .309 with 32 home runs and 84 RBI just last season.
With Toronto sitting at 26-29 and nine and a half games behind the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East, the Blue Jays will need to have Springer healthy to produce at his 2025 level.
