New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is still dealing with the repercussions of a low-grade right calf strain injury. The injury has prevented the 36-year-old from participating in any kind of running activities.

During the April 24 game against the Texas Rangers, Stanton tweaked his calf while running the bases. Although the Yankees were hopeful that the outfielder wasn't seriously injured, the team had no choice but to move Stanton to the injured list after realizing that the strain could worsen over time.

Ever since Stanton joined the Yankees in 2018, he's consistently found himself on the injured list, stemming from elbow and hamstring injuries to problems with his Achilles. In 2025, Stanton played the second fewest number of games in his Yankees career, not including the shortened 2020 MLB season.

At 36, Stanton's injuries might not lessen over time, but that hasn't stopped the outfielder from going out and putting up as best of a performance as he can every night. In the 2026 MLB season, Stanton has a .256 batting average, including three home runs and 14 RBIs across 24 games.

When Stanton hasn't been dealing with injuries, he's been a key player for the Yankees during his time in New York. During his time with the Yankees, the team has only missed the MLB playoffs on one occasion.

Stanton has played 764 games with the Yankees and has a .245 batting average. He's recorded 189 home runs and 511 RBIs.

Stanton's best playoff performance came during the 2024 MLB season, when the Yankees made it all the way to the World Series before losing the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. In Stanton's 14 playoff appearances, he connected with a .273 batting average, including a personal best of seven home runs and 16 RBIs.

The Yankees are currently first place in the AL East, a few games above the Tampa Bay Rays. After being eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 ALDS, the team will look to make another playoff run just like they did in 2024.

While the team is on the right path towards topping the division and making another playoff appearance, the is, such as the one suffered by Stanton, could become an issue down the line. While the team waits for Stanton to recover, they'll continue to do their very best with what they have to be a competitive team no matter what else they face throughout the season.
