The San Francisco Giants made a series of roster moves Friday ahead of their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies, highlighted by the promotion of outfielder Turner Hill and the recall of Jonah Cox from Triple-A Sacramento.

The club also transferred veteran third baseman Matt Chapman to the 60-day injured list while optioning infielder Nate Furman and outfielder Grant McCray to Triple A after Wednesday's game.

After announcing the moves, the Giants shared the update on social media as they continued reshaping their roster for the final stretch of the season.

Hill's promotion marks the first major league call-up of his career after earning his opportunity with Sacramento. Cox also rejoins the roster after spending part of the season in the majors, giving San Francisco additional speed and outfield depth.

The biggest news, however, remains Chapman's move to the 60-day injured list. The veteran is expected to undergo surgery for a core muscle injury, ending a season that was interrupted by multiple physical setbacks. His transfer opened a spot on the 40-man roster for Hill.

The Giants entered Friday with a 50-71 record, sitting fourth in the National League West and well behind the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers. With postseason hopes fading, San Francisco appears focused on evaluating younger talent over the final weeks of the season.

Colorado arrived at Oracle Park with a 48-73 record, making the series a matchup between the bottom two clubs in the division.

Hill now has an opportunity to make his major league debut after impressing in Triple-A with his contact ability and athleticism. Cox returns after appearing in 24-games for San Francisco earlier this season.

The Giants will open the series behind right hander Landen Roupp, who is scheduled to face Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland as San Francisco begins another look at its next wave of talent.
