The San Francisco Giants optioned right-handed reliever Ryan Walker to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, one day after the club's 10-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Oracle Park. In the corresponding move, San Francisco recalled left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt from Triple-A Sacramento.

Walker has been a regular part of the Giants' bullpen since making his Major League debut in 2023. The 30-year-old has appeared in 27 games this season, posting a 7.52 ERA with 19 strikeouts and three saves across 26.1 innings while pitching in a variety of late-game situations.

The roster move came after Walker allowed three earned runs in one inning during Wednesday's loss to Toronto. The Giants, however, did not connect the transaction to that outing and provided no additional explanation beyond announcing the roster moves.

Whisenhunt returns to the major league roster after another strong stretch with Triple-A Sacramento. The 25-year-old left-hander, one of the organization's top pitching prospects, earned the promotion after compiling a 5-0 record while logging 77.1 innings for the River Cats this season.

The Giants recalled Whisenhunt to start Thursday night's opener against the Colorado Rockies, giving the club a fresh arm as it begins a new series following the conclusion of its homestand against Toronto.

Walker will continue working at Triple-A Sacramento, where he remains a candidate for another major league opportunity later this season. His option gives the Giants flexibility as they continue managing their pitching staff through a busy part of the schedule.

San Francisco's latest roster adjustment underscores the organization's effort to balance immediate pitching needs with long-term depth. Whisenhunt now gets an opportunity to make an impact in the majors while Walker looks to work his way back to the big league bullpen.
