One of the game's best starting pitchers will officially be back from the injured list later in the week.

The San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello told reporters that ace right-hander Logan Webb will come off the IL on Friday to make his scheduled start against the Colorado Rockies in Denver, as expected.

Webb was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday and barring a setback he will return from the IL.

Webb has been on the 15-day IL since May 9 with right knee bursitis. Before landing on the shelf, the righty did not look like himself. In 48 innings and eight starts, Webb posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.

The right-hander made a rehab start for Triple-A last Friday, where he went 3.1 innings on 62 pitches, allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks. He also struck out two batters.

The 29-year-old has been one of the best starters in baseball dating back to 2021. A two-time All-Star, Webb has finished in the top 11 in the NL Cy Young voting in four straight seasons. Webb was the runner-up for the Cy Young award back in 2023.

Getting Webb back will be a major boost to the Giants' starting rotation. However, it has been an ugly season in Vitello's rookie year as manager. San Francisco entered play on Tuesday with a 22-32 record and in fourth place in the National League West division.

If the Giants are going to turn their season around, which looks to be a long shot at this point, they're going to need Webb back and pitching like his old self.

Last season, Webb produced a 15-11 record, 3.22 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 224 strikeouts in 207 innings and 34 starts. He led the league in both starts and innings pitched.
