The San Francisco Giants host the San Diego Padres at 3:45 ET for the rubber match of a 3-game series. The Giants took the first game, and the Padres bounced back with a win in Game 2. SF’s last series win came against the Miami Marlins, and before that, they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in two of three games. However, they were swept by both the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays before the win over San Diego in the series opener.
The Giants defeated the Padres in the second series of the season, winning two of three games. There is a chance they do that again, which would be crucial for their hopes in the NL West. As of right now, SF is in last place with a 14-22 record, tied with the Colorado Rockies. They are 7.5 games back of the Padres and eight back of LA.
Former Friar, Luis Arreaz, has been hitting the ball well this season. He isn’t to blame for the lack of team success. Arraez is 17th in the league with a .316 batting average, and his .739 OPS is respectable for a guy who mainly hits singles.
As the Giants did in Game 2, they are keeping Arraez out of the starting lineup and are hoping to keep him out for the entire game. He injured his thumb on a swing in the series opener on Monday. Here is the latest update from Alex Pavlovic on X.
“Arraez still has a sore thumb, happened on a swing recently. Vitello said he might be available off the bench but they’re hoping to give him a full day because tomorrow is an off day.”
Casey Schmitt is playing second base in the meantime and has home runs in back-to-back games.
