Giants Would Love to Trade These Players

The San Francisco Giants have gotten off to an ugly 16-24 start to the 2026 MLB regular season under rookie manager Tony Vitello.

The Giants, who haven't had a winning record since 2021, have lost nine of their last 12 games and it's becoming fair to assume that they will be sellers at the MLB trade deadline come August.

For that, MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports is reporting that the Giants would love to trade superstar first basemanRafael Devers, shortstop Willy Adames, outfielder Jung Hoo Lee and third baseman Matt Chapman. This would ultimately signal a rebuild under president of baseball operations Buster Posey.

However, it's not that simple. These four players are owed a combined total of $597.5 million.

Devers, who the Giants acquired in a mega deal from the Boston Red Sox last season, has $226.5 million remaining on his contract. San Francisco would likely have to pay down a portion of his deal or take on another big contract in order to move him.

As a result, Nightengale believes the Giants are more likely to shop starting pitcher Robbie Ray on the trade market. Ray will become a free agent after the season concludes. Ray is making $25 million in 2026.

While executives think the Giants will listen to offers on ace Logan Webb, Nightengale sees this as unlikely given he has three years left on a favorable five-year, $90 million deal.

Posey and the Giants already traded two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend. There should be more where that came from on the trade front for San Francisco as the season progresses.
