Greasy poles are back for Game 7 of the NLCS

The Phillies are one game away from a second straight World Series appearance. Hide the wife. Hide the kids. More importantly, grease the poles.

Philadelphia has no problem with the latter as municipal workers were spotted greasing up all things climbable before Game 6 of the NLCS Monday. Last winter, the city actually used biodegradable hydraulic fluid in anticipation of an Eagles victory that never happened in Super Bowl LVII.

Last fall, after the Phillies beat the Padres in the NLCS, Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata joined Phillies fans to celebrate in the streets, but thankfully took a pass on climbing anything tall and slippery.

The Phillies had a chance to win the series on Monday afternoon but couldn’t overcome a pair of home runs given up by pitcher Aaron Nola in the second inning and lost 5-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nola will be a free agent at the end of the season. Did his performance grease the skids for a trip out of town? If Philadelphia loses tonight, he’s probably gone. If the team makes it to the World Series and Nola pitches well, greased-up Phillies fans will gladly let him slide.
