Cleveland Guardians star rookie Chase DeLauter exited Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in LA with a foot injury. DeLauter suffered the injury after fouling a pitch off his foot. He went straight to the clubhouse after the injury scare.
According to Paul Hoynes, DeLauter left the game with a left foot contusion and X-rays were negative.
DeLauter has performed well to begin the new campaign. It goes without saying, but this injury is far from ideal. The Guardians are monitoring the situation.
DeLauter, 24, is one of the up and coming stars in MLB. After making his debut in the 2025 playoffs, DeLauter entered Tuesday's game hitting .286/.318/.857 to go along with four home runs to begin the new campaign.
DeLauter entered the 2025 season as the Guardians' No. 2 overall prospect, trailing only 2024 No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana. Many people think that Bazzana and DeLauter represent the future of the franchise.
The outfielder was selected in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft by Cleveland. He emerged as a highly regarded prospect throughout his time in the minor leagues. The 24-year-old has the potential to do everything at a high level on the field. DeLauter has a five-tool skill set.
His bat stands out without question. He can hit for contact and power. Additionally, his defense has continued to improve. If he meets his lofty expectations, DeLauter could end up becoming one of the better all-around outfielders in the entire sport.
In 34 games at Triple-A in 2025, DeLauter hit .278/.383/.476 across 34 games played. He added five home runs, eight doubles and 21 RBIs. In fact, all DeLauter did in his minor league career was hit at a high level as evidenced by his .302/.384/.504 slash line and 20 home runs in 138 total contests.
DeLauter's future is clearly bright. The Guardians believe he can become a star at the big league level. Cleveland has found success in recent years despite an overall underwhelming offensive performance. The Guardians are hopeful that players such as DeLauter and Bazzana can help Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan lead the team's lineup for years to come.
For now, all of the focus is on Chase DeLauter's injury status. Cleveland will continue to monitor and provide updates as they are made available.
As for the game itself, Cleveland and Los Angeles are currently tied 0-0 in the fourth inning.
