The Cleveland Guardians need an offensive boost. Not only has the lineup been underwhelming this season, but Jose Ramirez recently landed on the injured list. The Guardians are dealing with other injuries as well, and trading for a hitter or two should be the ball club’s priority. Jim Bowden of The Athletic believes Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker would be the “perfect fit” for the Guardians.
“The Guardians ideally need another impact power bat with first base or designated hitter the most logical spots. If the Astros decide to trade first baseman Christian Walker, Cleveland would be the perfect fit in a deal,” Bowden wrote in a recent article.
Cleveland would also benefit from acquiring an outfielder, but first base and designated hitter are also areas of need. Walker, 35, is a veteran first baseman who would give Cleveland’s lineup a boost.
So far in 2026, Walker has recorded a slash line of .246/.315/.495 to go along with an .810 OPS. He has also recorded 18 home runs and 14 doubles. Meanwhile, Angel Martinez currently leads Cleveland with 11 home runs.
The real question is whether or not the Astros will even sell before the MLB trade deadline. Houston is just 35-41 overall, but the ball club is only 3.5 games back of first place in the American League West standings despite currently sitting in fourth place.
The Guardians are 39-35 and are technically in second place in the American League Central behind the 38-34 Chicago White Sox. With Ramirez injured, the Guardians need to make a move sooner rather than later.
