Guardians Make Telling Jose Ramirez Decision Amid Playoff Push

In the 17 games since his activation, Ramírez has managed only a .197 average with a matching .197 slugging percentage, zero extra-base hits, four RBIs and just five stolen bases across 75 plate appearances.

Wrist inflammation related to the surgically repaired hand has forced additional days off in recent weeks, further disrupting any rhythm he might have hoped to regain.

For a player long celebrated for his durability and consistency—Ramírez had started every game before the June injury—the ongoing limitations are conspicuous.

Manager Stephen Vogt has repeatedly praised Ramírez’s willingness to play through discomfort, yet the decision to rest him at the start of a critical series against a hot San Diego team suggests the Guardians are prioritizing long-term health over short-term lineup strength.

Cleveland enters the series at 59-63 and has dropped four consecutive series, sitting well off the pace in a competitive American League Central.

Whether the night off helps Ramírez rediscover the power and contact that defined his earlier seasons remains to be seen.
