Guardians Sign Tyler Zuber To Minor League Contract

The Cleveland Guardians will begin their 2024 Spring Training in 15 days, when their pitchers and catchers will conduct their first workout.

After agreeing to minor league contracts with both a pitcher and catcher yesterday, extending a non-roster spring training invitation to each, the team has made another such addition.

On Wednesday, the Guardians announced that they have signed relief pitcher Tyler Zuber to a minor league contract, who will also be a non-roster invite to their Spring Training.

Zuber most recently pitched for Las Estrellas Orientales of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) this offseason. He made 13 relief appearances, going 3-2 with a 4.63 ERA, 12 strikeouts, one hold, 1.20 WHIP, and .200 opposing batting average.

The 28-year-old was originally a sixth-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals out of Arkansas State. He eventually made his Major League debut during the 2020 season.

Zuber made 23 relief appearances for the Royals that season, going 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA, 30 strikeouts, 1.59 WHIP, and a .197 opposing batting average.

The following year, the right-hander made 59 relief appearances across Triple-A Omaha and Kansas City. In 31 Major League outings, Zuber went 0-3 with a 6.26 ERA, 25 strikeouts, 1.57 WHIP, and .250 opposing batting average.

He did not pitch in 2022, however, due to right shoulder impingement syndrome, for which he received surgery that May.

Zuber was then claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who designated him for assignment before sending him to Triple-A Reno.

He eventually made 16 Triple-A relief appearances last season, going 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA, 18 strikeouts, one hold, 1.50 WHIP, and .266 opposing batting average before being released early this past July.
