During the Cleveland Guardians' Thursday loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, star third baseman Jose Ramirez left the game early after getting hit by a pitch. Cleveland, who dropped two games of the three-game series against the Blue Jays, will kick off a series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
Friday's game will mark the first time these two teams go head-to-head this season. As the Guardians look to get things back on track, winning the first game of the series could set the tone for them.
Ahead of their series opener against St. Louis, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt provided a big update regarding Ramirez.
Though X-rays came back negative after Ramirez left Thursday's game, the Guardians will likely still be without their star third baseman for at least one game.
According to Vogt, Ramirez will "probably" not play in Friday's game. However, while Vogt said Ramirez will not start on Friday, he said he could be available off the bench.
"He's probably not going to be able to play tonight. He's pretty sore," Vogt said. "Jose won't start today. He might be available off the bench late-game, but we gotta be careful with this, obviously."

Since June 1, Ramirez is batting .301 with an OPS of .815. Additionally, he has recorded three home runs and 10 RBIs during that stretch.
Assuming he does not appear in Friday's game, the 32-year-old's next opportunity to play will be on Saturday. As Vogt says, the team will be as cautious with his injury as possible. Hopefully for them, he can make his return sooner rather than later.
