The Toronto Blue Jays had an unforgettable series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at the beginning of this month. Kevin Gausman started in Game 2 against the Dodgers, and he was charged with a balk by home plate umpire Dan Merzel.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider was not pleased with the call as he rushed out to the mound, yelling at Merzel. The umpire argued that Gausman moved and did not stand still long enough before throwing the pitch.

Kevin Gausman is known for making a small pumping action on the mound, but things didn’t go his way. Schneider was ejected, and Gausman recently shed light on the situation when asked about it in an interview.
Chris Rose of Chris Rose Sports interviewed Gausman in the dugout and asked him about the entire incident. Rose also asked him if he watched Jomboy’s breakdown. Every MLB fan is aware of Jomboy and his detailed breakdowns.
The commentator did the same for Kevin Gausman and Schnider during the controversial call. However, the Blue Jays pitcher stated that he had no idea what a slide step was.
“I respect Jomboy a lot, but it seems like Jomboy has never seen a slide step. I did do it differently because there was a speedy runner at first. Didn’t balk, it was called a balk,” Kevin Gausman said.

Several fans called out Gausman for his response. However, the pitcher stated that Jomboy’s breakdowns don’t really help him after the game. The Blue Jays are still struggling to go beyond the .500 mark as they remain fourth in the AL East division.
Kevin Gausman continues to play a crucial role in the team’s starting rotation. Hopefully, Toronto will break out of its inconsistency.
