Kyle Hendricks turned in his best outing of the season with seven shutout innings, and the Los Angeles Angels erupted for all 12 of their runs with two outs in a 12-2 blowout of the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.
Hendricks (7-9) scattered four hits, struck out six, and walked just one, throwing 58 of his 80 pitches for strikes. It marked his sharpest performance of 2025. Twins starter Zebby Matthews (4-5) took the loss, charged with five runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.
The Angels piled up 17 hits, going 8-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Mike Trout and Yoán Moncada each scored three runs, while Luis Rengifo delivered a two-out, two-run single in the first and added another two-out RBI knock in the fifth to give Los Angeles a 5-0 cushion.
Los Angeles then broke the game open late. Chris Taylor launched a three-run homer in the sixth following Taylor Ward’s RBI single. An inning later, Moncada followed base hits by Sebastián Rivero and Bryce Teodosio with his 12th homer of the season, another three-run blast to right.
Minnesota avoided a shutout in the ninth when infielder Ryan Fitzgerald, who pitched a scoreless eighth, homered for two runs.
The Angels played without Jo Adell for the second night as he deals with vertigo. Adell ranks fourth in the AL with 35 homers and seventh with 94 RBI.
The Twins put two on with one out in the sixth, threatening to cut into a 5-0 deficit. Hendricks snuffed out the rally by retiring Trevor Larnach on a pop-up and Luke Keaschall on a flyout to left.
Mike Trout’s homerless drought extended to a career-high 119 plate appearances and 27 games since hitting No. 398 on August 6. His previous longest skid was 117 plate appearances in 2015.
The series wraps Wednesday with Twins right-hander Taj Bradley (6-7, 4.92 ERA) facing Angels right-hander José Soriano (10-10, 4.07 ERA).
