The Houston Astros have started a bit sluggish this season. To begin the 2025 campaign, the Astros hold a 4-5 record and have struggled to get things going.
Despite the slow start, there is no reason to panic. There is plenty of talent in Houston to win.
Heading into their series against the Seattle Mariners starting on Monday, the Astros are going to have a new face on the roster.
On Sunday, Houston decided to make a move to call up one of their young pitchers. That pitcher is none other than right-hander Logan VanWey, who looked very good in the spring.
Ari Alexander of KPRC2 reported the move and stated that VanWey will join the team in Seattle.

In a corresponding move, Alexander reported that the Astros are optioning right-handed pitcher Luis Contreras to clear a spot on the 26-man roster.
During the spring, VanWey pitched 13.2 innings and only gave up two earned runs. He had a 1.32 ERA and 15 strikeouts as well.
While playing in the minor leagues during the 2024 season, VanWey appeared in 60 games. He compiled a 9-1 record to go along with a 3.22 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, 98 strikeouts, 40 walks, 12 holds, four saves, and 72.2 innings pitched.
At 26 years old, there is a lot of excitement surrounding VanWey. He will look to come in and make a positive impact on a pitching staff that could use the help.
Fans should expect to see him get his first MLB action at some point during the series against the Mariners.
