How Aaron Judge's 2025 Season Mirrors Legendary Performances

Aaron Judge continues to make the case that he is the best baseball player of a generation, ESPN Insider Buster Olney points out.

On Friday night, Judge reached base for the 100th time this season, hitting that mark in just the Yankees’ 44th game. The last player to do it that fast? Barry Bonds back in 2002, during a season where pitchers probably would’ve preferred to just walk him straight to the Hall of Fame.

But here’s the part Yankees fans will really appreciate: the only other Bronx Bombers to reach 100 times on base this quickly are names that don’t just echo through Yankee Stadium, they are the ghosts that haunt the Bronx.

Mickey Mantle did it in 1956, the year he ran away with the Triple Crown. Babe Ruth pulled it off in both 1923 and 1930, back when he was rewriting baseball itself.

Judge is putting up numbers that would make even the ghosts of Yankee Stadium take notice. According to Baseball Savant, he's averaging an exit velocity of 95.5 mph, with a hard-hit rate of 56.6% and a barrel rate of 25.6%. These metrics place him among the elite power hitters in the league. His weighted on-base average (wOBA) stands at an impressive .516, with an expected wOBA (xwOBA) of .496, indicating that his performance is not just a result of luck but of consistent, solid contact.

From a traditional stats perspective, Judge's dominance is just as clear.

Per FanGraphs, he's leading the Yankees with a 4.0 WAR, underscoring his value to the team's success. His on-base percentage is a staggering .402, and he's slugging .488, combining for an OPS of .753. These numbers not only highlight his ability to get on base but also his power-hitting prowess.

This is all a long way of saying we are watching one of the greatest players in the game. It’s like being alive when Babe Ruth was playing.
