How Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman & More Dodgers Did In 2025 MLB All-Star Game

The National League earned a 7-6 victory over the American League in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game at Truist Park, which came after the first-ever Home Run Derby-like swing-off was held to determine a winner.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were represented by Freddie Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in this year’s Midsummer Classic. Dave Roberts also served as manager of the NL squad, and Dodgers coaches rounded out his staff.

Ohtani hit leadoff and started at designated hitter for the NL, going 1-for-2 with a single off Tarik Skubal to begin the bottom of the first. He eventually came around to score on Ketel Marte’s two-run double that gave the NL an early lead. Ohtani was removed in the bottom of the fifth for eventual All-Star Game MVP Kyle Schwarber.

Freeman got the start at first base and grounded out in his only at-bat. He was replaced by Pete Alonso in the top of the third inning and received a standing ovation from the fans in Atlanta as he left the field.

Smith made his first career All-Star start and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He played four innings before coming out of the game for Hunter Goodman.

Kershaw was selected to his 11th career All-Star Game as a “Legend Pick” by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. He followed NL starter Paul Skenes in the second inning and retired both batters faced.

Kershaw got 2025 Home Run Derby champion Cal Raleigh to fly out to left field thanks to Kyle Tucker making a sliding catch to rob him of a potential extra-base hit. The left-hander then struck out Vladimir Guerrero Jr. looking before exiting the game to a standing ovation from the fans in attendance.

Yamamoto was the only Dodgers representative who did not participate in the All-Star Game due to starting on Sunday. It nevertheless was the right-hander’s first selection to the Midsummer Classic.

Dave Roberts credits Dino Ebel for NL win

Schwarber hit three consecutive home runs to give the NL a decisive 4-3 lead in the swing-off that decided the All-Star Game winner in lieu of extra innings.

Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel pitched to Schwarber and was praised for his efforts after the game.

“Yeah, there you go. Put a ‘W’ next to Dino’s name in the paper,” Roberts said. “Well, there’s no more papers anymore, but Dino should get the win. Absolutely.”
