The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers and the best offense that money can buy 3-1 on Tuesday night, which followed their 9-1 victory over the NL West powerhouse on Monday. When the Brewers schedule was first released before the season began, many fans were not thrilled to see the team forced to face Los Angeles both right before and right after the All-Star break.
But that was before Freddy Peralta proved to be the dominant ace Milwaukee believed he could be, and before rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski was called up to the Majors. Behind their strong starts, the Brewers have already clinched their first three-game series against the Dodgers.
Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw is one of the best pitchers in MLB history. Last week, he struck out former Brewers infielder Vinny Capra to earn his 3,000th career strikeout, becoming just the 20th pitcher ever (and just the fourth left-hander) to reach that mark.
Prior to the game today, Kershaw was asked about facing Misiorowski, the young Milwaukee fireballer who has taken baseball by storm. And the legendary Dodger kind of brushed him off.
“I don’t even know who I’m pitching against,” Kershaw said. “(Miz) Is that the guy who twisted his ankle on the mound. The ‘Twisted-His-Ankle’ guy. I know he throws hard. I saw a couple highlights. He throws hard. But so does everybody. Except me.”
But all Misiorowski did was out-duel the Los Angeles legend on Tuesday night. Both pitchers went six full innings. Kershaw gave up two runs on six hits, a walk, and struck out three. Misiorowski gave up just one run on four hits, one walk, and struck out 12.
While Kershaw may have not thought highly of Misiorowski prior to Tuesday’s game, the young Brewers’ pitcher said he has “all the respect in the world” for the three-time Cy Young Award winner.
Jacob Misiorowski says he has “all the respect in the world” for Clayton Kershaw. Said it was “awesome” to get a chance to match up against him.

As one can see from Adam McCalvy’s post, Misiorowski also said, “I saw something online that he doesn’t know who I was. So I hope that he knows me now. It’s kind of cool.”
And as for Kershaw, well, he was singing a different tune postgame: “I know him now, huh? That was super impressive. That was unbelievable. It was really special. I mean, everything. Obviously the velo, but he’s got four pitches, commands the ball and made it –– I mean, I don’t know how you hit that, honestly.”
