The Milwaukee Brewers are advancing to the NLCS after edging out the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. The Cubs pushed Milwaukee to a full five-game NLDS, but the Brewers came through when it mattered most. After the win, manager Pat Murphy praised his resilient team and had a message for everyone watching.
“I’m a guy who should be really thankful for what has happened to me,’’ remarked the Brewers skipper. “I’m lucky to be in the major leagues. This organization has been great to me for 10 years, and they took a chance on an old guy.
The Brewers knocked off the Cubs 3-1 on Saturday, powered by three home runs. They leaned on a five-man pitching effort to seal the series, with Jacob Misiorowski leading the way by throwing four innings for Milwaukee.
"Nobody predicted the @Brewers would be playing in the [Championship Series]…"

“I’m just grateful, to be honest with you. I’m grateful for the guys we’ve had in the room. They’ve been doubted every year. Everyone. There’s no one predicting the Brewers playing the Dodgers in the (league championship) series.,” Murphy continued.
The Brewers boast a roster full of top prospects and several former first-round picks. They may not carry the $500 million payroll of other elite teams, and they can’t always afford to re-sign players, forcing them to find replacements. Yet despite those limitations, Milwaukee continues to compete at the highest level and remain a dominant force in the league.
The series victory ended Milwaukee’s streak of six straight postseason series losses, sent the rival Cubs packing, and propelled the Brewers into the NLCS to face another rival, the star-studded Dodgers.
The Dodgers carry one of the highest payrolls in league history, and they’re only getting stronger. Los Angeles will field a full-strength roster as it goes after the Brewers.
NLCS Game 1 is scheduled for Monday at 7:08 p.m. CT, but before turning their focus to Los Angeles, Pat Murphy and the Brewers celebrated one of the franchise’s most memorable wins. The victory gave them bragging rights over Craig Counsell and the rival Cubs, ended a postseason streak that began with a Game 7 loss to the Dodgers in the 2018 NLCS when Counsell managed Milwaukee at home, and concluded a tense, hard-fought best-of-five series.
