With the World Series set to begin this week, we are very close to the MLB offseason beginning, and it’s going to be a critical one for the Atlanta Braves after such a disappointing 2025 campaign.
Once the final out is recorded in the World Series, MLB free agency begins and the trade market re-opens for all 30 teams. Five days after the World Series, decisions on contract options must be made, which the Braves have a lot of, and qualifying offers are due.
Las Vegas will play host to this year’s general manager meetings. Alex Anthopoulos has been notorious for some blockbuster deals over the years, and this is where a lot of that work can get done. It would be rather shocking if the Braves didn’t make at least one significant trade this offseason after the way their season transpired.
Drake Baldwin is one of the finalists for the NL Rookie of the Year award, and he’s sure to get at least a handful of first place votes. It’s going to be a tight race regardless of who wins, with Baldwin hoping to become the third Braves rookie to win the award since 2018 (Ronald Acuña Jr., Michael Harris), which would net the Braves an extra draft pick at the end of the first-round thanks to the Prospect Promotion Incentive rule.
By November 21st, all teams must decide whether to tender a contract to their arbitration eligible players. Those that are non-tendered will become free agents.
Another potentially active period during the offseason where a lot of free agent deals and trades come to fruition.
This is not typically an event that Braves fans tune-in to, but that’s not the case this year. Atlanta has the sixth-best odds (4.54%) of landing the #1 overall pick in the MLB draft.
