Amid the injuries to the New York Mets' pitching staff, one reliever appears to be getting close to returning.
Right-handed reliever Dedniel Núñez is having his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Syracuse as he continues to make his way back from Tommy John surgery.

This news on Núñez comes after he posted back-to-back scoreless outings for Double-A Binghamton, an encouraging sign for the injury-riddled arm.
Núñez initially began last season on the injured list after a flexor injury ended his promising first season in the big-leagues in 2024. In 24 outings that season, he posted a 2.31 ERA with 48 strikeouts over 35 innings.
Once the 30-year-old was finally healthy, the Mets optioned him to Triple-A for the start of the 2025 campaign. After Núñez made his anticipated return to the big-leagues last year, he appeared in just 10 outings, posting a 4.66 ERA with 11 strikeouts and six walks over 9.2 innings.
When Núñez's command was noticeably an issue, New York placed him on the IL on July 3 with a right elbow strain. He was later transferred to the 60-day IL just weeks later and would undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, the second time in his career that he would undergo said procedure.
With Núñez taking this next important step in his rehab, his return to the Mets' bullpen could soon be on the horizon. New York is also hoping to get the 2024 version of Núñez as their bullpen continues to get thinner each day.
After back-to-back rough outings, the Amazins' placed fellow righty reliever Austin Warren on the IL with a forearm strain. Warren has also undergone Tommy John surgery in his career.
