Injury Won’t Stop Carlos Correa From Performing His Duties as Twins Assistant GM
Jordan Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins kind of need a win or two vs the Philadelphia Phillies over the next few days and they will have to do it without their All-Star captain, Carlos Correa, who is currently in a walking boot and on the injured list with plantar fasciitis.

But Correa is still in the clubhouse and around the team. He acts as a secondary coach, constantly working with all of the Twins’ youngsters, who trust him like a wise big brother. But not only does he play shortstop, bat in the middle of the lineup and act as an assistant coach, but he reportedly plays a very important role in the front office, too.

Carlos Correa working as Minnesota Twins assistant GM

According to what Correa told reporters gathered at Target Field today, including Declan Goff and Phil Mackey (SKOR North) Carlos Correa works with Twins decision makers during the offseason and prior to the trade deadline.

Twins officials confirmed that Correa sends up trade targets, trade proposals and acts as a sounding board when Falvey & Co. need to bounce ideas off him.

Goff: “Someone asked [Carlos Correa], ‘hey, what about trade deadline plans?’ Because they know Carlos Correa loves to to involve himself into the [Twins’] trade deadline plans and Correa volunteered information basically just straight-up on the record, saying ‘I’ve already said a lot of names already’. He said he wants to meet with Rocco…”

“I did ask some other people around the organization, I was like ‘how much is he really involved?’ Cuz [anyone] can say, ‘I got some influence here’, but does that hold any weight? And it sounds like, from people that I have talked to, Carlos Correa is 100% involved in [trade] ideas, in proposals, a lot of different things.”

Mackey: “[Correa] wasn’t disrespectful or anything but it’s pretty rare that you hear the star of a baseball team just flat out say on the record, ‘yes, I’m very much involved in sending [trade] ideas’ and ‘yes, we could use some pitching around here’.”

Twins players know they need more starting pitching

Correa told media members today that he sends all of his ideas through Rocco Baldelli, as to not jump rank or go over his boss’ head, but from what Twins officials relayed to Declan – who has been working the Twins’ home beat all season – Falvey very much values the ideas that his shortstop brings.

Rocco and members of the front office will also reportedly go to Correa, in order to bounce trade proposals or possible targets off him, which is so fascinating. As Mackey notes, it’s just not very often that you hear about players being heavily involved in trade and different talent acquisitions.
