The Los Angeles Dodgers are dealing with many injuries to their starting pitchers. With those injuries, the Dodgers could be looking to the trade market for starting pitching. One MLB insider revealed the Dodgers' plan leading up to the deadline and how they'd address their starting pitching injuries.
On Foul Territory, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal answered a question about what the Dodgers would do regarding their starting pitchers at the trade deadline.
"Andrew Friedman, their president of baseball operations, hates making trades at the deadline, because many times you have to overpay," Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal's report suggests that the Dodgers front office doesn't want to make a deal for another starting pitcher, especially with all the arms they have on the roster.
Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Clayton Kershaw, Emmet Sheehan, River Ryan, and Gavin Stone are all on the injured list. Shohei Ohtani isn't ready to pitch yet either.
With Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dustin May, Roki Sasaki, and Tony Gonsolin all active for the Dodgers, the rotation is still strong. If everyone were to get healthy at the same time, the Dodgers' rotation would be 11 starters deep.
But Rosenthal doesn't completely shut down the trade conversations. Given the Dodgers' starters' injuries, Rosenthal sees a scenario where they may be forced to make a move.
"Their goal is still to avoid trading for a starting pitcher, but that question has come up, and let's face it, Trisha [Whitaker], if this continues, if more guys keep going down, yes, they're going to need to be in the market," Rosenthal added.
With six prospective starters on the injured list, the Dodgers can't afford to have another starter go down. If one more starter gets hurt, the Dodgers may have to acquire another starter.
Los Angeles have the most injury-riddled starting rotation in baseball right now. According to Ken Rosenthal’s latest report, the team plans to stay patient and hope their current starters can get healthy while avoiding any new setbacks.
If things take a turn for the worse, though, Los Angeles are prepared to explore their options. For now, don’t expect any major shakeups to the rotation.
