Instant Analysis: Brewers Select Andrew Fischer in First Round of 2025 MLB Draft

The pick is in! The Milwaukee Brewers have made their selection on who will lead their 2025 MLB Draft class.

Holding the 20th overall selection in the first round, with a slot value of $4,268,100, the Brewers picked Tennessee 1B/3B Andrew Fischer.

Who is this player and how does he fit in the organization? Here are some instant takeaways and analysis from the selection.

Andrew Fischer, 1B/3B, Tennessee

Back-to-back seasons the Brewers go with a corner infielder from the University of Tennessee. Andrew Fischer comes to the Crew in a bit of a surprise.

While the Brewers have historically preferred up the middle players, they've now gone with a corner infielder in two of the last three Drafts, going back to Brock Wilken in 2023.

Offensively, Fischer is a prototypical corner infielder with big time raw power and a solid enough hit tool. In his lone season at Tennessee, replacing Blake Burke who is also in the Brewers system, Fischer hit .341/.497/.760 with 25 home runs with 63 walks and 42 strikeouts.

Defensively, Fischer has experience at third base, but he lacks the range to continue to play there at the next level. He'll likely move to first base as he goes up through the system.

The Brewers love players that make great swing decisions, it's a point of emphasis for their hitting development and Fischer makes some of the best swing decisions in this Draft. Despite being a power-over-hit guy, the hit tool is pretty solid and it's a well rounded look on offense.

The Brewers are also likely getting some slot money savings here with this pick, allowing them the flexibility to be creative with their later selections. Fischer is the sixth straight position player in the first round for Milwaukee. Five of those six have been from the college ranks.
