The Houston Astros and Carlos Correa—together again? According to Bob Nightengale, the Astros are exploring a reunion with their former franchise shortstop.
Correa, 30, is having a decent 2025 season with a .267 batting average, seven homers, 31 RBI and a .704 OPS across 337 at-bats. That production isn’t eye-popping, but his leadership, glove and postseason resume would be a welcome boost to a veteran Houston club trying to stay alive in a crowded AL playoff race.
It’s a long shot—but not impossible. Correa has a full no-trade clause, but per Nightengale, he’s told friends he’d waive it to return to Houston.
From the Twins’ angle, it’s both surprising and logical. Byron Buxton flatly told reporters during All-Star Weekend, “I can’t be traded… I’m a Minnesota Twin for the rest of my life,” referencing his own no-trade clause. But that doesn’t mean Minnesota can’t quietly initiate a soft rebuild. With prospect Brooks Lee establishing himself, Walker Jenkins knocking on the door of a call-up and rumors swirling around Joe Ryan, Jhoan Duran, Willi Castro and Harrison Bader, GM Derek Falvey could look to rebuild this roster.
The #RedSox #Yankees #BlueJays #Phillies and #Mariners are speed dialing the #Twins at an annoying level with continued interest in Joe Ryan, basically their whole bullpen, Willi Castro and Harrison Bader. Twins could end up being the headliner at the deadline as talks heat up…

So, what could a Correa-back-to-Houston package look like?
Let’s piece together a fair deal using the Astros’ top prospects.
Minnesota receives:
C Walker Janek (Astros’ No. 3 prospect)
RHP Ryan Forcucci (No. 7)
OF Zach Cole (No. 25)
Houston receives:
SS Carlos Correa (Twins eat a chunk of salary)
Janek gives Minnesota a young, high-IQ, defensively sound catcher for the future who’s shown potential behind the plate in High A ball. Forcucci is a fast-rising righty with swing-and-miss stuff and strong peripherals, projecting as a mid-rotation starter. Cole, though further off, brings lefty pop and good speed and would be an intriguing upside piece for a potential post-2026 core.
Is it wild to imagine Correa back in an Astros uniform? Absolutely. But with Houston back to its winning ways and the Twins fielding “annoying” levels of trade interest, the deadline might bring us one of the most emotional reunions in recent memory.
Stay tuned.
