The Angels have been doing painfully badly as of late. This season, they have dealt with injuries, brawls, and overall poor performance. The sad thing is, many of these terrible players have really expensive contracts. However, Mike Trout is having a major comeback. But even so, there’s a possibility that trading Trout could do the Angels some good.

The Angels have made no official statement about whether or not they’re trading Trout. But there’s no denying that he’s been one of the few really good players this season. He had a pretty bad season last year because of many factors, including injuries, but he appears to be redeeming himself this year. He’s fully healthy and performing at an MVP level. He is top 10 in the league in home runs and OPS.
Trout is having a fantastic resurgence. Therefore, he currently has an extremely high value. Higher than it has been in years. What team out there wouldn’t want a player performing the way Trout is? One thing the Angels might not want is the expensive, very long contract.
While Trout has been fantastic, many of the other players on the Angels have been less fantastic. The farm system for the Angels has been seriously hurting. They are ranked near the bottom of MLB. They are really lacking in top-tier talent. They have poor drafts, and they prematurely promote prospects. How are players supposed to be any good if they are being rushed?
What the Angels need are some real, high-quality prospects. They need consistently good players whom they can rely on. They need to give these players some time so they can have a chance to be the best they can be. As good as Trout is, if he were to be traded and the Angels didn’t have to have that expensive contract, they could afford some players that they could be proud of.
There are several reasons why it would be a great idea for the Angels to trade Trout and start a rebuilding phase for the team. However, the Angels still have some valid reasons for not trading Trout. For one thing, he actually has a full no-trade clause and must approve any move. Another thing, the contract is so expensive that it might be hard to find any takers. Having such a high value could really be a blessing or a curse as far as wanting to trade Trout.
Here’s the thing, though. The Angels have such a good player, and they are still struggling. They are getting too comfortable with their MVP, and they refuse to take the time to take care of the new guys. They’re having trouble drafting decent players. They need to make space on their roster and unload some of their extremely expensive contracts.
Also, the guy is basically the face of the franchise at this point. If they let go of him, what will they have? Could the team potentially still go on without him and still do a good job? Is a successful rebuild possible for the Angels? Well, there’s only one way to find out.
The Angels need to be brave enough to take the risk of letting go of Trout so they can save a little money to help their hurting team. Trout can’t be the MVP forever. One day, he will retire, and what will the Angels be left with then? They should trade him now while he is at the top of his game.
