It Appears Carl Edwards Jr. Is Back with the Cubs Organization

As the 2024 MLB season got underway, Carl Edwards Jr. was one of many intriguing players who didn't join the Chicago Cubs' Opening Day roster.

By opting out of his minor-league contract toward the end of Spring Training, he was presumably seeking a big-league roster spot in another organization.

However, it appears the righty hurler may be returning to the organization once again. Edwards Jr. was spotted with the Cubs' Triple-A club on Thursday, though there's no official deal between the sides as of this writing.

Given Edwards Jr.'s strong spring, it'd be a no-brainer for the Cubs to bring him back into the fold.

Any organization can never have too many bullpen arms, and the Cubs will need production wherever they can get it as they strive to make the playoffs. If Edwards Jr. is, in fact, back in the organization, it'd be intriguing to see if he can crack the big-league bullpen at some point during the season.

Manager Craig Counsell has used his bullpen quite a bit through two series this season. While some arms have impressed, others, such as Yency Almonte, are off to a slower start.

Depending on how long of a leash Counsell will give his relievers, Edwards Jr. should be able to earn a call-up if he proves effective with the Iowa Cubs.

If the Cubs want to maintain their hot start to the 2024 campaign, the bullpen will play a major role.
