When Matt Olson was traded from the A’s to the Braves, it was a homecoming for the suburban Atlanta native. Now, the story has come full circle.
For the first time in 25 years, Atlanta is hosting All-Star festivities. Ironically, Matt Olson attended those festivities at Turner Field as a six-year-old and will now represent his hometown Braves as an All-Star, the third time he’s been elected.
Olson joins Chris Sale and Ronald Acuna Jr. as Braves representatives this weekend. It is obviously more special than any other and might be the most important of his career.
However, this week has been notable for more reasons than earning an All-Star bid for his hometown Braves. He’s officially been in Atlanta longer than Oakland. Even though it’s been just four years with the Braves compared to six years with the Athletics, Matt Olson has played in 575 games with the A’s and 578 with the Braves.
This has been a great week for Olson, and it’s only going to get better as I assume he will have a large contingency at Truist Park this weekend.
