It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, and the White Sox Aren’t Scoring

Another day, another five-spot. For the second night in a row, it only took one inning for the Toronto Blue Jays to break the game open.

This time, they only waited until the third inning to hang a five-spot on Aaron Civale, effectively putting everyone out of their misery before the sun even set on 35th and Shields. The Chicago White Sox lineup offered little resistance, again, and Chris Bassitt made sure of it, throwing six innings of one-run ball, just as he did in their last meeting on June 22.

Toronto's win streak reached double digits, while the South Siders are just kind of... here.

Crooked Numbers, Clockwork Offense

Davis Schneider got things started with a solo shot, and the wheels quickly came off from there. After a flyout by Nathan Lukes, Civale issued a walk to George Springer, then gave up a double to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and an RBI single to Bo Bichette.

The two runs alone would've been enough, but the Jays weren't done. Addison Barger roped a double to plate another. Alejandro Kirk made it 4-0 with an RBI knock, and Joey Loperfido drove in the fifth run on a fielder's choice. Ernie Clement ended the nightmare with a groundout.

Toronto added one more in the sixth when Lukes doubled, Springer walked again, and Guerrero Jr. cashed in his second RBI of the night with a single to make it 6–0.

One Bright Spot

Josh Rojas launched his first homer as a member of the White Sox in the bottom of the sixth, a solo shot to right that finally got the Sox on the board.

It was the only real sign of life against Bassitt, who needed just 78 pitches to get through six innings.

Rain poured with two outs in the top of the seventh, prompting a delay. After an hour and 20 minutes, officials called the game.
