Former Florida slugger Jac Caglianone officially has his first Major League Baseball hit. He knocked a double to right field on Thursday in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals, his second ever MLB game.

Caglianone had come close in the opener against the Cardinals, but the Kansas City Royals prospect was robbed a few times after making contact on all five of his at-bats. He finished 0-for-5 at the plate.

Thursday was more of the same early. Jac Caglianone grounded out on the first pitch of his first at-bat.

Then the big knock finally came. In the top of the fourth inning, Caglianone stepped to the plate and quickly fell behind in the count 0-2. Then he roped a liner down the first base line, just past the glove of the first baseman. It scored a runner from second, giving Caglianone his first career RBI as he trotted to second with a double.

Jac Caglianone upbeat after debut

In his MLB debut, Caglianone finished 0-for-5 at the plate but had an encouraging showing. His first at-bat was nearly a home run, coming up just shy of the warning track.

Instead of a double to the gap, though, center fielder Victor Scott II made a spectacular catch. Jac Caglianone tipped his cap.

“Hit the ball pretty well,” Caglianone said. “No cigar. Victor Scott is pretty good out there. He made a great play.”

He had another ball that was remarkably well hit later in the game. He blasted it to the left side of the infield, only to watch Nolan Arenado make a great play.

“It was one of those off the bat where I was like, ‘All right, possibly,’” Caglianone said. “Booking it, and then halfway down the line, I was like, ‘Well, that’s platinum glove Nolan Arenado at third, so probably not.”

After Thursday, Jac Caglianone need worry no more. He’s offically on the board.
