Texas Rangers star pitcher Jacob deGrom is going to miss his start on Sunday due to a “minor” glute strain. It seems as if the injured list is a possibility for the veteran starting pitcher. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News shared the report on Friday after speaking with Rangers manager Skip Schumaker.

“Jacob deGrom is dealing with a ‘minor’ glute strain & won’t start Sunday. Skip Schumaker when asked if IL is a possibility: ‘we are still working through that,'” Grant reported.

deGrom is dealing with some injury uncertainty at the moment. The Rangers are certainly hopeful that he will not have to miss too much time due to the injury.

deGrom is still one of the better pitchers in the game. While the 38-year-old is not as dominant as he once was, deGrom is more than capable of turning in a huge start on any given night. The Rangers are trying to remain competitive in the American League West standings, and, as mentioned, the ball club is hopeful deGrom will not have to miss too much time due to this injury.

deGrom has pitched to a 3.49 ERA across 18 starts this season. He has also recorded 122 strikeouts in his 100.2 innings of work. If the Rangers are going to reach the postseason, they will need the two-time Cy Young winner to lead the way on the mound.

Updates on Jacob deGrom’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. For now, the Rangers will focus on their final series before the upcoming MLB All-Star break, which will be played against the Houston Astros at home.
